If the reasons follow the decision, they aren’t the real reasons behind our decision.
There are all kinds of actions that feel extreme now that will look like common sense later.
Intentions are of little consequence.
Direction is everything.
Direction determines destination.
Break the habit of drawing a circle around individual decisions and events and dismissing them as isolated occurrences.
These decisions are steps.
Step that lead somewhere.
Because life is connected.
Summarizing Andy Stanley’s The Principle of the Path
When I catch myself wanting to set somebody strait about a flaw or sin in their life, I need to stop and ask myself “Why?” Why do I care … REALLY. This will usually lead to issues (flaws or sins) I haven’t completely acknowledged and delt with in my life. This reminds me that I am still a work in progress. I could be judged harshly, but I would hope for mercy and kindness. This understanding of my shortcomings and how I would like to be treated makes me a better candidate for helping someone else deal with theirs. It reminds me to only correct if my hope is to benefit and encourage them. Otherwise… I need to check my motives and shut my piehole.
